This educational visit to Dunkerque transformed the city’s urban landscape into an immersive, multi-disciplinary classroom, blending rigorous historical inquiry with practical teamwork.

The students travelled by public transport to the centre of the city of Dunkerque. Once on the main square, a teacher explained briefly the history of Dunkerque, its main traditions and economic facts.. The students were then divided in groups of 6 and were given a map of the city. To enhance engagement and integrate Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into the field study, students used the Goosechase platform.  A leader had downloaded the application and the teams started to complete their missions.

By navigating a circuit of historical landmarks, UNESCO World Heritage belfries, port museum, students moved beyond passive observation to active discovery including traditions.

We aimed to transform the city into an interactive interface, requiring teams to execute digital missions, upload real-time evidence, interview people on the street and solve location-based puzzles.

The students showed commitment and interest, despite some technical issues. By engaging with UNESCO sites and local traditions, students gained a deeper appreciation of the local heritage. They also developed spatial orienteering skills through map-based navigation. Beyond the historical discovery, the students developed practical ICT skills, including mobile data management, digital photography for documentation, and orienteering. They also learnt collaborative problem-solving as groups and synchronize their efforts to complete the "Goosechase missions. Using English as the functional language for the 'Goosechase' missions and team coordination provided a high-stakes, immersive experience.
