The history curriculum for third-form students includes the study of post-Second World War decolonization, with a particular focus on Algeria as a case study of a nation’s struggle for independence. To help students understand this complex historical process, they examined a variety of source materials, including written documents and video extracts, supported by a guided questionnaire. These activities enabled them to explore the causes, stages, and consequences of decolonization and to develop a broader understanding of the topic.

On June 2nd, third-form and fourth-form students came together for a collaborative learning project designed to strengthen connections between grade levels through a shared educational experience. Working in pairs, the older students created a large mind map illustrating the origins, causes, processes, outcomes, and political context of decolonization. Each pair was responsible for researching and presenting one specific aspect of the topic.

Once the mind map was completed, the pairs took turns presenting their findings to the younger fourth-form students. This activity not only reinforced the third-form students’ understanding of the subject but also gave them an opportunity to develop their public speaking and communication skills.

The session concluded with an engaging group discussion during which students asked questions, exchanged ideas, and reflected together on the historical significance of decolonization.
