GR26 - CAEC – ENGAGE– City Tour of Athens

The guided city tour began at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, an architectural landmark symbolizing the cultural and spiritual heritage of the city.

Next, students explored Syntagma Square, the heart of modern Athens, where students observed the Changing of the Guard (Evzones) at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, symbolizing respect for national history and sacrifice. The visit to the Hellenic Parliament provided insights into democratic governance and its historical roots in ancient Greece.

The tour continued along Panepistimiou Street, where students admired the "Athenian Trilogy" (University of Athens, Academy of Athens, and National Library)—three neoclassical buildings representing the pursuit of excellence in education, knowledge, and research.

Throughout the tour, students actively engaged in discussions, shared observations, and reflected on the cultural and educational significance of each site. The activity concluded with a reflection session, where students shared their thoughts on the importance of preserving cultural heritage and fostering international collaboration.

Students gained a deeper appreciation for the cultural and intellectual legacy of Athens, improving their ability to articulate historical insights in a multicultural environment. They developed teamwork and observation skills, while also strengthening their understanding of Olympic values in real-world contexts
