IR24 PSLL ENGAGE Mini Olympic Preparation
11 nov. 2024The preparations for our Mini Olympic Games involved extensive organisation and communication with local primary schools to ensure a successful event. We began by reaching out to these schools, sharing details about our Erasmus+ project and inviting their 5th and 6th class students to participate in the activities. Collaborating closely with the PE department, we designated specific zones for the various games, creating a well-structured environment for all participants.
An itinerary was developed to split the schools across two days of training, where students would have the opportunity to learn new skills and games from each partner country. French students introduced the classic game of Petanque, while Slovakian participants taught UniHoc, Greek students showcased Volleyball, and Italian students led Frisbee sessions. Our own Erasmus students engaged in these activities, alongside learning Ireland's national sports: Gaelic Football and Hurling.
To enhance the experience, we organised an art workshop where participants designed flags for their mixed teams, inspired by the countries involved and the core values of the project. The awards ceremony was meticulously planned, featuring video messages from renowned national and international sports stars to inspire the young athletes. We also printed certificates for all participants as a token of their achievements.
To cater to visiting teachers, we arranged food orders and trained Transition Year (TY) students to serve as leaders for each group, ensuring smooth coordination throughout the event. Additionally, we reached out to national and local media, inviting them to cover the Mini Olympic Games and celebrate the spirit of international collaboration and sportsmanship.
