Autism Awareness Month was an important opportunity for our school community to celebrate neurodiversity, promote inclusion, and raise awareness and understanding of autism. As a proud autism-friendly school, a number of activities took place throughout the month to encourage acceptance, empathy, and respect for all.
Before the Easter break, Ms Erskine organised a Neurodiversity and Autism Awareness poster competition. Students were encouraged to create posters celebrating neurodiversity and Autism Awareness, and the response was fantastic, with a huge number of creative entries submitted. Ms Fagan, Mr McGlynn, Mr McGuinness and Mr Kennedy had the difficult task of selecting the winners from a very high standard of work. Congratulations to Sofiia Cheliadyn and Michaela McGrory from 1.4, who were chosen as the overall winners and will each receive two cinema tickets after the Easter break. The winning posters, along with a selection of shortlisted entries, were proudly displayed in the school. Well done to all students who participated.
We were also delighted to welcome back past pupil Seanie Creedon, who spoke to our Transition Year students about autism and Autism Awareness. The talk provided valuable insight and encouraged greater understanding and inclusivity among students. Thank you to Seanie for taking the time to return to the school and facilitate such an engaging and meaningful experience for our students.
