PSLLC-RESPECT- PEER EDUCATION AGAINST VIOLENCE ON WOMEN

A group of about 20 students were trained by educators belonging to the local association MIA which takes care of women victims of domestic violence, and were asked to think and react against situations of violence. The students worked in groups and each group analyzed a particular situation, reflected on how to prevent violent act and above all worked on personal feeling and emotions. The students were trained to be peers of younger students who they met at the end of their training activities and taught them how to prevent difficult situations working on personal feelings.

Important means to develop the topics were “drawings” and “speaking”. Guided by a famous cartoonist Fogliazza  the students used instant drawing to share their feelings and emotions including joy and anger.

OBJECTIVES

•  To understand the potentially damaging effects of living up to stereotypes (and the media’s role in perpetuating them, and how they can lead to abuse and violence against others.
•  To learn about and reflect upon causes and consequences of gender inequality globally and in their area and do research on it, and different types of violence against women.
•  To be able to think critically on the topic of violence against women and justify their own opinion in English, showing respect for the opinion of others.
