CAEC - JOY HORTO-THERAPY
18 sept. 2024It is a form of therapy that uses gardening and interaction with nature as tools to improve psychophysical well-being. This practice is especially effective for those who suffer from anxiety or stress.
Horto-therapy is a multisensory activity, because it activates sight, touch, smell, taste and hearing at the same time; it increases self-esteem and personal satisfaction.
Seeing a plant grow and reaping its fruits is important because it helps to increase self-esteem and a sense of responsibility.
This kind of activity is suitable for any age group, and it is important that our students, in the Social and Healthcare sector (Sociosanitario), understand the importance and the several benefits of this form of therapy especially because, when they begin to work, will be able to replicate it with children, elderly and disabled.
The students of class 2A IPSS in May participated in four meetings in the garden of tthe school, together with our agronomist Carlo. After explaining to us the importance, the benefits and the objectives of this multisensory activity, he made us ; the land, the seeds and the vegetables; the students planted, dug, sowed, smelled, tasted and also collected the various products.
The feedback received was very positive. The students defined the activity relaxing and engaging, they worked in small groups where they helped each other.
The class group also had an idea: prepare a pepper plant, printing a dedication and creating a bow in the shape of a rose with the colored ribbon to give to each teacher to leave a memory.
