IR24 CAE RESPECT RNLI Water Safety

During our recent visit to the Bundoran RNLI Station, located in the breathtaking area of Donegal Bay, we had the unique opportunity to learn about the vital work carried out by this esteemed lifeboat service. Since its establishment in 1994, the station has provided critical search and rescue cover, earning recognition as the Irish Emergency Response Team of the Year in 2014. 

First we had a tour of the station and learned about the safety boats. Our group was warmly welcomed by dedicated RNLI volunteers, who shared inspiring stories of rescues and the importance of water safety. Through engaging presentations, we learned about the lifesaving skills necessary for keeping ourselves safe on and around water. The RNLI also offered invaluable educational materials and lesson plans tailored for young people, covering water safety messages relevant to various age groups. 

As part of the visit, we participated in interactive discussions, assessing risks associated with water activities and brainstorming ideas for a water safety campaign. The hands-on activities, such as quizzes and the Rewind workshop, further reinforced vital water safety messages, making the experience both informative and enjoyable. Overall, our visit to Bundoran RNLI Station not only deepened our understanding of water safety but also strengthened our appreciation for the incredible work done by the RNLI in our community.
