CC Family Carer's Support Talks
12 nov. 2024On Monday 4th November, Elayne O Hara from Family Carer’s Ireland visited CCBS to talk to our entire student body about the role of a young carer. Young carers are children and young people under the age of 18 whose lives are in some way affected because they provide care, assistance or support to another family member in the home.
This care and assistance can range from providing additional support around the house, to collecting prescriptions in the pharmacy to visiting grandparent(s) regularly due to an illness. The person they care for is often a parent but can be a sibling, grandparent or other relative who needs care, support or supervision because of disability, chronic illness, mental health difficulties or problems with drugs or alcohol misuse.
According to the national statistics, there are approximately 70 young carers in our school community providing wonderful additional support at home.
Family Carers Ireland provides additional support to these young people including free counselling, grinds, access to digital devices and respite days/weekends.
