Our first year Home Economics students created scone buns as an introduction to baking.

In first year our students work in groups of three or four as many have never cooked or baked before and this ensures that everyone is included and has a valid part to play in the practical lesson.

The aim was that students would apply the rubbing-in method to create light, fluffy scones. Students used skills such as the rubbing-in method, mixing, rolling out and oven management during this home economics lesson.

There is a wide range of abilities in every class and inclusion was clear to be seen as every student performed a number of tasks throughout the lesson.

All students achieved the lesson aim and, as a result, got to take home a number of freshly baked treats!
