IR24 CAE –Heritage and Joy - Visit to Campview Farm
07 mai 2024Campview Farm offered participants a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the rural landscape and agricultural practices of the area. Led by the husband and wife team, participants embarked on a guided tour that provided insights into the farm's operations as a business. They learned about the intricacies of dairy farming, including a demonstration of the milking parlour and the farm's milk exportation process to Nigeria. Beyond its role as a commercial enterprise, Campview Farm also serves as an accredited Social Farm, offering Animal Assisted Therapy and Green Care. Participants had the chance to interact with farm animals, including the beloved dairy cow, 'Candy,' whose tactile cuddles were shown to relieve stress and enhance overall wellbeing. A tour of the farm on a tractor trailer provided a fun and educational experience, allowing participants to visit the herd and learn about the farm's unique practices, such as the care of a "super cow" producing 52 litres of milk daily. Throughout the visit, participants engaged with various farm animals, including four-week-old calves, llamas, donkeys, hens, and sheep. This hands-on experience fostered a deeper connection to the farm and its inhabitants, while also developing social skills through interaction with the farm owners and fellow participants.
Results and Impacts:
The visit to Campview Farm yielded several positive results and impacts. Participants gained a greater appreciation for the agricultural heritage of the area and the role of family-run farms in sustaining local economies. By learning about the farm's operations and experiencing firsthand the joys of rural life, they developed a sense of connection to the land and its inhabitants. Moreover, the visit provided participants with moments of joy and relaxation, as they engaged in activities such as cuddling with 'Candy' the dairy cow and exploring the farm landscape. These experiences not only enhanced their overall wellbeing but also instilled a sense of wonder and curiosity about the natural world.
