FRG26 PSLL Engage Will Hiking in the rainforest

As part of the European project Respectol – Erasmus, teachers and students enjoyed an exceptional experience in the heart of the Guadeloupe rainforest. This morning hike allowed participants to discover an impressive natural environment while developing human and sporting values ​​linked to Olympism: respect, mutual support, pushing one's limits, and solidarity. The first part of the hike took place near the Maison de la Forêt (Forest House), in an atmosphere that was both calm and mysterious. From the very first steps, the students were immersed in a spectacular setting typical of the Guadeloupe rainforest. The humidity, the scents of the vegetation, the birdsong, and the sound of water created a unique atmosphere. The participants were able to observe numerous plant species characteristic of this forest: gigantic tree ferns, lianas, giant leaves, bamboo, kapok trees, and several tropical trees with impressive roots. Some students were particularly struck by the density of the vegetation and the feeling of being surrounded by almost untouched nature. Throughout the hike, a guide accompanied the group and shared a wealth of information about the local flora and fauna. The students discovered that the Guadeloupe rainforest is home to a very rich biodiversity. The guide explained the essential role of trees in protecting water and the climate, as well as the importance of preserving this fragile ecosystem. He also introduced several animal species found in the forest: tropical birds, small lizards, colorful insects, and frogs typical of the Antilles. This scientific and sensory experience allowed the students to learn in a different way, directly through contact with nature. The second part of the morning was more athletic and demanding. The students undertook a longer hike with several challenging sections. The terrain was sometimes slippery due to mud, and the numerous roots made progress more difficult. Some sections required balance, concentration, and a great deal of teamwork. The students encouraged each other to overcome obstacles and move forward together despite their fatigue. This experience allowed them to develop important skills such as cooperation, perseverance, and trust among peers. This hike also helped the students and teachers get to know each other better. Outside the usual classroom setting, everyone was able to show another side of their personality: some proved to be very courageous, others very attentive to the needs of the group. The challenges encountered in the forest strengthened team spirit and created powerful shared memories. The impressive nature of the rainforest, with its towering trees, giant ferns, and sometimes mysterious atmosphere, pushed everyone to step outside their comfort zone and share this collective adventure. The values ​​of Olympism were fully experienced during this activity. Respect for nature and others, friendship among participants from different cultures, as well as a taste for effort and pushing oneself beyond one's limits were central to this experience. The students understood that physical activity can also be a way to learn to live together and protect the environment. The morning ended in a warm atmosphere with a picnic organized by the river. Many Guadeloupean families were also present, allowing the students to discover an important local tradition: sharing family time by the water, a cherished activity in Guadeloupe during weekends and days off. In a friendly atmosphere, the participants were able to relax, chat, and enjoy one last time the exceptional natural beauty of the Guadeloupean rainforest
