IT26 CAEC Day against gender-based violence

The initiative aimed to raise awareness about gender-based violence and encourage reflection on respect, equality, empathy and responsible citizenship. Through discussions and creative activities, students expressed their ideas and contributed to promoting messages against violence and discrimination.

The activity fostered Citizenship competence: respect for human rights, equality and active participation. Personal and social competence: empathy, dialogue and critical reflection; Literacy competence: expressing ideas through written and visual communication; Cultural awareness and expression competence: using creative forms to communicate social messages.

Several classes took part in activities organised for the International Day against gender-based violence on the 25th November, with the aim of encouraging reflection, dialogue and awareness among students. During the morning, classes dedicated time to discussions and debates on gender-based violence, respectful relationships, stereotypes, emotional wellbeing and the importance of communication and mutual respect. Students worked in groups and participated in activities based on the analysis of realistic situations, anonymous exchanges of thoughts and experiences, and debates on behaviours linked to control, jealousy, manipulation and social pressure.

The activities promoted active participation and allowed students to express opinions, confront different perspectives and develop empathy and critical thinking skills in a mature and constructive environment. Particular attention was given to the recognition of respectful behaviours and personal boundaries within relationships, encouraging students to reflect on the impact of words, attitudes and social expectations.

As a final outcome, many classes created posters, banners, slogans, poems and written reflections to communicate messages against violence and discrimination. These materials were displayed in the corridors, classrooms and common areas of the school, together with symbolic elements such as the red ribbon and the red bench placed in the school atrium, helping to involve the entire school community in the initiative and making students’ voices visible throughout the institute.

The activities achieved a high level of student participation and involvement across the school. Students showed interest and maturity in discussing complex and sensitive topics, demonstrating openness to dialogue and reflection. The posters, banners and written works produced by the classes helped create a visible message of awareness and respect within the school environment. The initiative strengthened students’ understanding of respectful relationships, empathy and active citizenship, while encouraging a more conscious and responsible school community.
