This choreographed performance to the song “Joli Kongo” by Guadeloupean artist Admiral T was one of the highlights of the Erasmus project's closing night. It brought all the students together for a collective performance blending music, dance, and cultural traditions. “Joli Kongo” is a modern Caribbean dancehall track, characterized by a fast rhythm, prominent bass, and a festive energy that naturally invites dancing. This musical style, very popular in Guadeloupe and the Caribbean, draws inspiration from both Jamaican reggae and contemporary urban music. In this song, Admiral T showcases socially conscious and identity-driven music that celebrates African and Caribbean roots, notably through the reference to the Kongo, a symbol of cultural heritage passed down through history and collective memory. The piece alternates between sung sections and rhythmic passages, driven by electronic instrumentation and percussion that enhance its danceable character. It expresses cultural pride, transmission, and unity—values ​​deeply rooted in Caribbean musical culture. It was a wonderful way to conclude a week particularly rich in discoveries, exchanges, and learning. Throughout the project, the students explored Caribbean music, shared experiences with their exchange partners, and developed a deeper understanding of world cultures. The choreography, performed by both girls and boys, showcased Creole culture through long madras skirts, a powerful symbol of Caribbean traditions, and the tête maré, a traditional headscarf that evokes elegance, identity, and the cultural heritage of the Caribbean. The spontaneous arrival of Tina, a Greek student who quickly learned the dance steps, exemplified the spirit of openness and cooperation inherent in the Erasmus project. In a second phase, the entire group joined in the choreography, transforming the moment into a true collective celebration. The evening continued with a gwo ka demonstration, further strengthening the connection between tradition and contemporary music. This festive closing event offered a powerful moment of emotion and sharing, bringing to a warm and unifying close an intense week rich in cultural and human discoveries.
