SK25 CC ETHICS Debating club - workshop

In the morning, the debating club, which is very active and successful at the grammar school in Poprad, had its lecture about the rules of debating club and its competitions held in Slovakia. They presented a short demonstration of a debating competition. After giving all the important information to students, the debating crew divided students into groups in which they were given a social problem and they had to discuss it in their groups and find a proper solution. After, the speakers of the groups presented their arguments and solutions to the problem. The final activity was the most interesting for students because it was about 10 individual people who were to be chosen to become members of EU. Those people were from different countries and cultures and individual problems or vices. Students had to choose one person who would be accepted. It was very interesting for them because they had to look at the person from various perspectives and presenting their choice raised a very interesting and long discussion about how difficult it is to judge people and choose who is the best choice. They had to bare in mind that every individual is different and it is hard to get rid of prejudice. It was very interesting to see how differently students from Slovakia, France and Ireland look at democracy and equality. The most important thing was to remain respect ethical values which they did.

The students actively participated in the activities holding up to ethical values of an individual and seeing and respecting different opinions of their classmates was a big school of respect and understanding.
