Students were divided into three groups and were introduced to the topic. Firstly, the students were speaking about the terms: nation, nationality, culture, cultural heritage, state, ethnic identity creating the mind map. The first group was preparing an essay in which they expressed themselves on the topic: “Who am I”. The second group was speaking about the sense of identity in terms of past, present and future, the importance of remembering and preserving the past and dangers of denying and destroying it. The third group was creating an overview of historical events that are connected with the countries within the EU studying the maps from different historical  periods.

Finally, the students presented their pieces of work and added ideas and expressed their opinions within the whole class.

Students understood how important is to preserve the memory of the past and be aware of consequences that form our present and future. It is important to know our past, not only to learn from it, but also to know history so that we can better understand the present and tolerate and learn about the culture of other countries and nations.
