CC - CITIZENSHIP – Municipality & Mayor’s Office visit

The students from Tercia class of Gymnazium Kukucinova Poprad visited Poprad’s town hall. The students were welcome by Mr Anton Danko, the mayor of Poprad, in his office. After that, they were informed about the organization and functioning of the Municipality and  structure and functions of the Town Council in its Meeting Room. Then, they met Mr Adrian Kromka, the Head of the Municipal Office, and discussed his role and responsibilities. Another interesting thing was a replica of a historical sword, which Mr Kromka keeps as a souvenir from his diplomatic function in Poland. On their way to the meeting halls, Mr Kromka explained to the students the organization of the main town’s bodies and representatives. The students could also observe the First-contact Office and the services it provides to citizens. When it is discussing and voting time, the Town Council and sometimes other bodies meet in one of the two meeting halls. Under the gestion of Mrs Lubica Barancova, the Head of the Education Department, our students could try out what it is like - this time, a 3-month-long summer holiday was approved unanimously. The larger meeting room serves also to the public for diverse celebrations, meetings, official gatherings, or even competitions and educational events. The renowned Mountain Film Festival takes place here, too. In the wonderful atmosphere of the Ceremonial Room, the students learned about its purpose and specific events and occasions that were held there. Mrs Nina Hrinak introduced them to the functioning of the town’s Registry Office, as the Head of it. The Operations Centre of the City Police is an exciting place - and makes us feel safe. All the equipment in the hands of the dedicated and brave police officers is a guarantee no villain has a chance in our town. It was a wonderful day filled with new information and experience. It helped the students understand the importance and function of municipality.
