As part of an educational trip to Guadeloupe, participants had the opportunity to explore the cultural, historical, and natural richness of the archipelago. This journey aimed to raise awareness among students about the local history, Guadeloupean traditions, and contemporary challenges of the region.

One of the highlights of the stay was the visit to the Mémorial ACTe, the Caribbean Center for Expressions and Memory of the Slave Trade and Slavery. This visit was a key moment in understanding the history of slavery and its lasting impacts, emphasizing the importance of remembrance and historical awareness.

The permanent exhibition, located at the heart of the Mémorial ACTe, offers an immersive journey through more than three centuries of history, divided into several thematic areas:

African Origins and the Slave Trade – Presentation of African societies before deportation, slave trade routes, and the conditions of capture and transport.

Life on the Plantations – Discovery of the harsh working conditions, acts of resistance, and survival through cultural expressions (music, religion, language).
Struggles and Abolition Movements – Highlighting revolts, key figures such as Louis Delgrès, Solitude, and Toussaint Louverture, and abolitionist movements.
The Legacy of Slavery – Analysis of the long-term
effects of slavery on modern societies, including issues of racism, inequality, and collective memory.

Art and Remembrance – Exploration of contemporary artistic works addressing the memory of slavery.

The visit to the Mémorial ACTe was a powerful and enriching experience. The permanent exhibition provided participants with a deeper understanding of the history of slavery while inviting them to reflect on its legacy. The Mémorial ACTe is an essential place of remembrance, not only for Guadeloupe but for humanity as a whole. It serves as a reminder of the importance of never forgetting in order to move forward.
