Nafplio is a coastal city located in the Peloponnese in Greece. Founded in antiquity, the city became an important seaport in the Middle Ages during the Frankokratia. It was the second capital of the First Hellenic Republic and of the Kingdom of Greece, from 1827 until 1834.

The visit began with a walking tour of Nafplio’s Old Town, where students observed the blend of Venetian, Ottoman, and Greek architecture, discussing how different civilizations coexisted. The group then took a boat trip to Bourtzi Fortress, reflecting on its defensive role and how historic conflicts shape modern ideas of peace and cooperation.

At the Archaeological Museum of Nafplio, students explored artifacts from the Mycenaean era, discussing the continuity of Greek culture and the responsibility of each generation to protect its heritage.

The visit concluded with a reflection session in Syntagma Square, where students shared thoughts on how Nafplio’s history promotes unity and cultural respect across Europe.

Students gained a deeper appreciation for Greece’s historical evolution and its impact on modern identity. They enhanced their critical thinking and intercultural understanding, linking the experience to Olympic values of respect, friendship, and heritage.
