The International Mismatched Socks Day, which has been celebrated for eleven years
the first Friday of February, aims to raise awareness of the importance of enhancing
diversity as value and enrichment, promoting feelings of friendship, respect and solidarity,
involving children and young people, educators and teachers, parents and families.

ACTIVITY PRESENTATION
At first, the teacher introduced the topic by showing a Pixar short-film called “Float”; this short-film
conveys a message of strong emotional impact, in particular it makes us understand that
using empathy can overcome prejudice.
After watching the short-film, the teacher introduced the practical activity, first thanks to
brainstorming and  the students analysed the word DIVERSITY, and then she presented the
material the students would use to create the bookmark. It was formed by a piece of plywood cut
and sanded with a measure of 14cmx4cm, the students designed the draft drawing on a
blank sheet, keeping in mind the main theme and trying to answer this question: What
does diversity represent for you?

The bookmark realisation
After the design of the bookmark on the blank sheet, the students, after choosing the
material to be used such as tempera, watercolours or felt-tip pens specific for wood,
started drawing on plywood and later painted it. In the back of the bookmark we decided to
include a keyword or a short phrase in English on the occasion of the Erasmus project mobility that would take place the following month, always keeping in mind the theme of diversity. Solidarity Market
To complete all the activity together with the group thought of creating a market to
raise funds for the future, to buy new materials for the laboratories of ‘Operational
Methodologies’.
Bearing in mind that on 24 March 2024 the National Day for the Promotion of Reading in
Italy would be held, it was decided to unify all this by associating with the bookmark a
personal book brought by each student, so as to raise awareness of diversity and
simultaneously stimulate the pleasure of reading in young people.
On the occasion of the Erasmus cultural exchange, the Solidarity Market was held in the
school lobby on March 13th
