FRG25 MLC- Perfection- WEIGHTLIFTING

During our “Forum des métiers” day, students had the opportunity to meet local professionals from La Désirade. This event gave them insight into a variety of careers, as the guests spoke about their professions and the qualifications required for each.
Organized within our secondary school, this career fair encouraged students to reflect on their future paths and aspirations.

On May 13th, 2025, students from 6th to 9th grade had the opportunity to meet Yannis Derrick, a Guadeloupean weightlifter who won both the French Elite Championship and the French Federal Grand Prix in 2024.

During this one-hour exchange, students discovered the world of weightlifting, the physical challenges it involves, and the high level of discipline and training it requires. Yannis Derrick also shared valuable tips on health, nutrition, and maintaining a balanced lifestyle to become a successful athlete. He spoke about his career path, the qualifications he obtained, and the competitions he has taken part in throughout his journey.

Finally, he emphasized the importance of speaking English in international sports, and openly discussed the difficulties he faced due to his limited English proficiency.
