During the visit of a quite unknown historical site, the Jewish cemetery in Poprad, the students learnt about the life and stories of the local Jewish community that was persecuted and suffered during the totalitarian regime of the Slovak State during the World War Two. They learnt about personalities and whole families in our region and town who fought for the observance of human and civil rights in the era of Slovak state.

Students gained information about the first mass transport of Jews from Slovakia to Auschwitz concentration camp which departed from Poprad in 1942 and was the beginning of systematic deportation of Jews to Auschwitz. They made an interview with a historian, Mr Vladimír Andráš, who conducts a research on the history of the Jewish community in our region. They have also written essays on the topic and published an article about the activity on the school website.

The students cooperated in the activity, learnt about unknown local history from the period of totalitarian Slovak State
