The workshop took place during a national event organised at the ‘Halle au Sucres’ in Dunkerque: ‘Le Climat Libé Tour’.

First the students met Maud Benakcha, a journalist who works for the famous French newspaper ‘Libération’ and produces podcasts. After introducing them to ‘Le Climat Libé Tour’, a national event devised by the newspaper ‘Libération’, which provides an opportunity to discuss the ecological transition by inviting citizens to ask themselves questions about the issue. The journalist gave them a history of the newspaper ‘Libération’ and then explained how to become a journalist. The meeting ended with a discussion on the impact of information on people's lives.

They then met Karine Deheunynck, who is Head of the Mediation Department at ‘Halle aux Sucres’, who explained her plan to create a new space, ‘La halle des décodeurs’, dedicated to media education and the development of critical thinking. She invited them to create posters to be displayed in this new area of the learning centre. The students are divided into 10 groups based on one of the following concepts : the printed press, the digital press, sources, truth and falsity, critical thinking, rumours, fake news, manipulation, propaganda and conspiracy. Each group was asked to produce 4 posters in different colours relating to this topic :  1-definitions of the concept and their feelings about it   2-a key figure relating to the concept    3-an inspirational source (a book, a website, a personality, etc.)    4-advice for visitors to the exhibition.

The students had the opportunity to meet professionals from the media world who are committed to media education and information : a journalist from the newspaper ‘Libération’ and a head of the Mediations department at the ‘Halle aux Sucres’, responsible for creating a space dedicated to information and disinformation. They were given the keys to understanding the media and digital worlds, strengthening their ability to analyse the information conveyed by the media, the Internet and social networks, and developing their critical faculties. By collectively creating an exhibition, they were encouraged to be creative and innovative, to collaborate and to get involved.
