GR24 CAEC - Peace - The Truce

The students were gathered at the school after school hours. Their task was to research and prepare a presentation on the Olympic Truce and the impacts of war to present at a global conference. Their goal was to convince world leaders, diplomats, and policymakers that the Olympic Games can be a powerful tool for promoting peace, and to highlight the severe consequences of ongoing conflicts.

The first group  did some research on the Olympic Truce: origins and purpose, historical examples cases when the Olympic truce was violated and how is the Olympic truce observed in modern times, and what role does the International Olympic Committee (IOC) play in promoting peace through the Olympics?

The second group did a research on the impacts of war: the human costs, the economic and social Impacts, how does war affect national economies, infrastructure, and social stability, the environmental consequences e.g. how do wars contribute to environmental destruction, the lasting impacts on ecosystems, agriculture, and natural resources and the political consequences. They discussed how does war affect political stability, governance, and international relations while focusing on examples of countries that have faced political instability due to war.

The third group was in charge of the benefits pf peace: how does peace foster international collaboration in areas like trade, science, and culture. They investigated the economic benefits of peace, including higher standards of living, job creation, and infrastructure development in peaceful societies. They also did some research on how does peace improve education, healthcare, and social welfare systems and what role does peace play in reducing crime rates, promoting cultural exchange, and increasing trust between nations, Lastly, they discussed about the environmental protection
