10 oct. 2023The Maryse Condé college has been involved for two years in the “Pôle Relais Culture” system which aims to create cultural activities on the island of La Désirade. Due to its very remote geographical location, the cultural offering is rare in La Désirade. The PRC allows students but also the entire population to access various activities on and off school time: theater, dance, music. During the inauguration of this structure, they were able to participate in workshops with the Evaïana duo.
They share two unique instruments, the Native American Flute and the Chapman Stick. With an innovative concept inspired by “loops”, a musical technique superimposing live loops, Evaïana also explores multi-instrumentality. The students were also able to discover the “BeatBox” – a set of percussions made with the mouth – accompanied by instruments such as the flute, the guitar, the whistle and the stick. This combination is warmly welcomed by its audience, captivated by this dynamic and enthusiastic fusion.
The Native American flute, also known by the poetic name “love flute” or Siyotanka (the singing stick), is a source of reverie in itself.
