After reading and studying the novel "Eldorado" by Laurent Gaudé, the students choose a contemporary novel that features an exile. Several extracts are proposed to them so that they understand that the figure of the exile haunts literature since its origins (Ulysses, Adam and Eve, Ovid), its representation remains negatively connoted and they wonder if this negative image is going to disappear or be modified in view of the changes that have occurred in the world. After having selected and read one of these novels, they portray the main character, the spatio-temporal framework in which he or she evolves, and make more specific research on the causes of his exile and the different stages that are staged in the novel (before, during and after exile). Finally, each student is asked to compare his novel to the values of the RESPectOl project : thus they select from the 30 values of the project 10 values that are at stake in their novel.

Each student selects a quote from their book that illustrates each of the 10 values they have chosen, and is asked to justify their choice. All values, quotes and explanations are arranged on a powerpoint slide. They become aware through this work of the qualities that people who make the decision to leave their country (courage, determination, conviction, resistance...), of the impact of this choice (on identity, dignity, citizenship...) and the importance of fundamental values of fraternity and solidarity for their inclusion.
