EC - INCLUSION – Europe Day – 9 May 2024

First, the class reads a group of literary texts from different genres (Montaigne, Florian, Grimm, Diderot, Hugo, Baudelaire, Maupassant, Zola, Vigan) and press articles on disability, which enables them to familiarise themselves with the vocabulary of disability and inclusion. They then each read a novel of their choice featuring a person with a disability, and create a mind map in which they define the type of disability, the exclusion/discrimination they suffer, and the way society looks at them. This gives the whole class an overview of the difficulties faced by people with disabilities and the solutions found for them. 

After that, the class is divided into groups of 3 or 4 and chooses to research a disability-related topic. 

The topics covered are : discrimination, inclusion, handisport / Paralympic Games, inspirational figures, the representation of disability in literature, art, sport, art brut and current events in Europe. One group also gives a presentation about a mobility week it took part in Portugal on the topic of disability-related discrimination as part of a European project on Human Rights. 

Each group summarises its research and thoughts on 3 posters. 

Finally, they make a 2-minute video : they are asked to create a poster on their topic and then to present each of the group's posters.

The students in the Erasmus+ class are working together to organise an exhibition for Europe Day on 9 May 2024. All the students are compiling their research into posters, which will be displayed in the school hall from 8 to 18 May 2024, for all the school's students to see, as well as the Italian and Greek correspondents from the RESPectOlproject. 

They are also asked to make a video in which they present their posters. All the videos are put together, to the rhythm of a song by the French slammer Grand Corps Malade : "Sixième sens".
