GR24 EC - HERITAGE – Visit at Acropolis Museum - Parthenon

The Parthenon is a temple built in honor of the goddess Athena, protector of the city of Athens. It was the result of the collaboration of important architects and sculptors in the middle of the 5th BC. century.
It is the most brilliant monument of the Athenian state and the colophon of the Doric style. It is one of the few all-marble Greek temples.

The Parthenon is one of the most recognizable monuments in the world. According to the prevailing view, modern interest in the monument emerged during the European Enlightenment of the 18th century, and it is admired as a symbol of universal and enduring values ​​of excellence, democracy, art, etc.
The students first visited Acropolis Museum. The archaeological excavation that lies beneath the Museum provides the opportunity to visitors to appreciate both the masterpieces of the Acropolis in the upper levels of the Museum against the remains of the day to day lives of the people that lived in the shadow of the Acropolis over various periods.

Later, they had the chance to visit Acropolis, the hill where Parthenon stands for the last 2.500 years. They admired the view of Athens from top and the masterpiece of classical architecture. Parthenon can be seen from all the corners of the city of Athens and is the most important surviving building of Classical Greece.

Students had the chance to visit the Acropolis and the Parthenon, that attract throngs of visitors, drawn to their timeless beauty and historical significance. It was their first time together as a group and they got to know each other taking some nice photos of this breathtaking view.
