FRG26 EC RESPECT Solidarity Watersports
03 mai 2026Students from the Respectol project participated in a morning of water sports discovery at ANASA, located in Sainte-Anne, Guadeloupe. This activity was part of an educational approach aimed at combining sports practice, cultural enrichment, and the development of essential human skills such as respect, solidarity, and teamwork. The morning's objective was to introduce students to water sports emblematic of the region while putting into practice the fundamental values of Olympism: excellence, respect, and friendship among peoples. In this context, the students worked together in activities requiring coordination, communication, and mutual trust. The first part of the activity was dedicated to group practice of giant paddleboarding. Seated on a large shared board, the students had to paddle in sync to maintain balance and propel the craft forward. This fun yet demanding activity immediately highlighted the importance of group cohesion: each individual movement had a direct impact on the stability of the whole. The students learned to listen to instructions, coordinate their efforts, and adapt their pace to that of others, thus developing a true team spirit. The second part of the session introduced them to traditional Guadeloupean sailing. This water sport, deeply rooted in local culture, relies on harnessing the wind to propel a light and maneuverable boat. The students were introduced to the basics of navigation: understanding the wind, adjusting the sails, balancing the boat, and assigning roles on board. Each participant had a specific function, making cooperation among all crew members essential. This activity also highlighted the richness of Guadeloupe's maritime heritage and the importance of passing it on. Beyond the sporting experience, this morning provided an opportunity to develop essential skills such as motor coordination, communication, collective decision-making, and adaptability. The students also experienced the importance of solidarity in team sports: the group's success depended on each individual's involvement, active listening, and mutual trust. Throughout the session, the participants demonstrated enthusiasm, mutual support, and a strong spirit of cooperation. This experience in a natural setting strengthened bonds between students of different nationalities and gave meaning to the values of Olympism through a concrete and engaging activity.
