GRCo25 - CAEC - ENGAGE - Archaeological Museum

The visit to the National Archaeological Museum of Athens constituted an important cultural and educational activity within the framework of the Erasmus+ project focused on the Olympic Games. On a very warm day, ideal for outdoor movement and exploration, the participating teachers met at the nearby metro station and walked together to the museum, allowing time for informal interaction and orientation within the urban environment.

At the museum, participants spent sufficient time exploring its rich and extensive collections, which offer a comprehensive overview of ancient Greek civilization. Special attention was given to exhibits related to athletics, physical excellence, and everyday life in antiquity, providing valuable insights into the historical roots of the Olympic Games and their connection to ancient Greek values. Through guided observation and discussion, teachers reflected on themes such as human achievement, artistic excellence, respect for the human body, and the cultural significance of sport in ancient society. The visit encouraged critical thinking and dialogue, linking archaeological evidence with modern educational approaches.

Following the museum visit, the group continued on foot toward the center of Athens. This walk offered participants the opportunity to experience the historic cityscape, observe important landmarks, and engage in further discussion in a relaxed setting. The action concluded with a shared lunch in the city center, which further strengthened social bonds and promoted intercultural exchange among the teachers. Overall, the activity successfully combined cultural heritage, experiential learning, and collaboration, demonstrating how historical institutions and urban spaces can support the educational objectives and values of the Erasmus+ programme.
