FRBV24 CC Peace - European construction, a tool for a lasting peace to be preserved
24 sept. 2024We realized that the students in general did not know much about the European Union construction, its basic ideals and principles, its different stages and institutions. To address that issue, the students were first given a quiz about the UE (beginnings, aims, important dates, history, geography, institutions, etc…)
They did some research and shared their answers. They were led to realise that the history of European construction was part of a desire to establish peace in a territory that had just experienced two deadly world conflicts. Pupils then worked in pairs each on a stage of European integration (ECSC, EEC, EU, successive enlargements, Treaty of Rome, Maastricht Treaty, other important events). They did some research using different media (texts, videos, posters, maps) and each pair explained orally what they learnt.
These landmarks in the history of the European construction were divided into different periods and the students created a document including some information and photos. These documents were printed and placed chronologically on a timeline, which will be displayed in the school on several occasions.
The last stage of the activity will the preparation of a game about the timeline and the different stages of the European construction that will be used during the hosting week in March. They will thus be able to share their knowledge with their correspondents in an attractive way.
