FRG25 PSLL – ENGAGE-Participation- Fencing workshop
20 janv. 2025As part of the promotion of fencing in Guadeloupe, the Guadeloupean Fencing League organized a discovery workshop at the Laura Flessel Hall. The goal of this event was to introduce participants to the fundamentals of the sport while allowing them to discover its core values of respect, self-control, and fair play.
Upon arrival, participants were warmly welcomed by the instructors and fencing masters. After a brief presentation of the session's program, the workshop began in a friendly and dynamic atmosphere. The workshop started with an introduction to the history of fencing and its importance in the sports landscape, particularly in Guadeloupe. The instructors highlighted the different weapons used (foil, épée, sabre) as well as the fundamental rules of the sport. Before starting the practice, participants took part in a warm-up session designed to prepare their bodies for fencing-specific movements. This exercise helped introduce essential postures such as the en garde position, forward and backward movements, and evasions. The fencing masters then introduced participants to basic techniques, including attacks, parries, and ripostes. Each participant had the opportunity to practice under the supervision of the instructors, who took the time to correct and guide each movement to ensure proper learning. Once the basics were acquired, participants were invited to put their skills into practice through small duels. These bouts, conducted in a fun and friendly spirit, allowed them to better understand the strategy and speed required in fencing. At the end of the workshop, a discussion session was organized to answer participants' questions and gather their impressions. Many expressed their enthusiasm and interest in continuing their discovery through further initiation sessions or joining a fencing club.
This fencing discovery workshop was a great success. It allowed participants to immerse themselves in this demanding and exciting discipline while enjoying a moment of sportsmanship and camaraderie. The enthusiasm shown by the participants highlights the importance of developing more initiatives like this to promote and expand fencing in Guadeloupe.
