FR24BV - CAE – Joy Dunkerque city tour
02 juil. 2024The students travelled by public transport to the centre of the city of Dunkerque. They were divided into international pairs and given a questionnaire and a map. They had to answer a few questions, find their way and identify currentlocations by comparing them to 100-year-old images. They were able to discover the existence of the belfry, thememorial dedicated to the soldiers who liberated the city of Dunkirk during the Second World War, among whom wereCzechoslovaks. They also visited the Saint Eloi church which was built around 1450 and where the tomb of Jean Bart is located, the town hall, the Leughenaer tower, the small chapel of Notre Dame des Dunes, Duchess Anne, one of the most large French three-masted ship, the Princess Elizabeth, a steamboat which took part in Operation Dynamo. They were also able to discover the remains of the wall built by Vauban during the time of King Louis XIV.
During the activity, the students had to take a photo of themselves in front of each monument with theircorrespondent.
Despite very bad weather, the students showed commitment and endurance. They were able to discover all the places and monuments, and appreciate the importance of Dunkerque's historical heritage. They managed to solve all the puzzles and take the photos in the right places. The Slovak group was particularly interested in the war memorial indicating that Slovak soldiers participated in the liberation of Dunkerque.
