4 students in the Erasmus+ class (2nd year) work on a value : “Equality”. They have to prepare a 3-part event about “RESPECT” based on the work of 3 groups, the other two being organised by two other groups about “diversity” and “democracy”. They have to think about this value by following 5 guidelines : respecting a time limit (45 minutes), answering a problem in the form of a slideshow that they write in French but present in English, illustrating their thinking by creating posters on concrete examples, interceding with the public (3 high school classes and 3 teachers), inviting an outsider to testify about his experience related to the topic.

4 students announce their event by making a poster. They organize this event as follows :

First they present a slideshow to answer this question : Are there cases in which inequalities are justified ? They propose to deal with this issue in 4 areas: sport, salary, life with a disability, social class. Each student presents one of these areas, using definitions, key figures, legislation, studies and comparisons between France, Europe and the World. They illustrate their analyses with a concrete case that they present in the form of a poster featuring a personality: Anne-Franck, Martin Luther King, Mozart and Theo Curin, a young French disabled swimmer, also known for his career as an actor and television and radio commentator.

Through their presentation, the students were keen to deconstruct the many stereotypes that quickly assign places and thus contribute to maintaining inequalities and reinforcing relationships of domination between groups, and to raise awareness that everyone, often unwittingly, conveys stereotypes that have real and often harmful effects.

4 classes go to the auditorium of the “Hall aux sucres”, the learning center in Dunkirk. The 4 students carry out the different activities they have prepared. The audience was very attentive when the students presented their slideshows and their research. Some young people in the public intervened at the end of the conference, because they were particularly concerned about the situation of disabled children they had in their entourage.
