FR24BV - CAE – Body - FRAC in Dunkerque- Visit and Workshop

The students were divided in two groups led by a professional guide . 

First activity: an artistic  workshop which was divided into three stages. 

1-All the students were sitting  around a big table (with their penfriends); they had sheets of paper and coloredmarkers. A student of each team had to come and  choose, at random, a card representing figures to respect; for example: use only diagonals and circles, or triangles and rectangles. Then, they rolled a die to see how many times they could use these figures. They started creating some abstract drawings, following the rules. It was easy and veryfunny.

2- They did the same thing again, but this time  they had to create the portrait of a friend in their team.

3- Each team had a very large sheet of paper spread out on the floor; one student lay down on the sheet, choosing a body position, and the others traced the outline on the paper. Then, everyone filled the silhouette with geometricfigures, drawn at random.

 Second  activity: they discovered the building of the FRAC (Regional Contemporary Art Fund), its history (an oldbuilding from Dunkirk naval shipyards)  and the particularities of its architecture using sustainable materials and saving energy), its current fonction in the region (a contemporary art museum) and the new exhibition : paintings by José Loureiro, a portuguese painter who works on the mechanics of gesture, the autonomy of  colours and lines to represent, for example, human silhouettes. It was very interesting because the students recognized the approach theyhad used during the workshop carried out just before. They better understood the artist’s research and mindset.

The students took part in the activity with great enthusiasm. They were happy to create artistic works in an original way. They also improved their cultural knowledge thanks to the visit of the museum, its collection and architecture and the discovery of the current exhibition of works by the artist José Loureiro
