FR24JB CC - CITIZENSHIP - Exhibition Sport & Olympics “Halle aux Sucres”

The students divided into two groups of mixed countries go to the "Halle aux Sucres", a centre of resources and expertise on sustainable development, to discover an exhibition in 3 languages (French, English and Dutch) entitled "Tous sportifs". They are greeted by a cultural mediator who invites them, divided into 10 teams (pairs or trios), to follow the 10 stages of a course designed as a mini-decathlon and built around popular French expressions that highlight gestures and situations that illustrate the values of sport and Olympism : "keeping your nose to the grindstone", "getting your shirt wet", "getting over the hurdle", "passing the baton", "doing the splits", "getting the hang of it", "reducing the flight", "staying the course", "reaching your goal" and "feeling good in your trainers". By taking part in the 10 events on offer, the students can experiment while having fun and learning about the physiology, biology, physics, history and mechanics of sport. Each team is provided with a “enigma sheet" and is given riddles, challenges and tasks to complete. Different topics are tackled, such as nutrition, team spirit, concentration, the mind, disability, sports equipment, sports that combine physical activity and cognitive ability, strategy, mental preparation, balance, the excesses of sport (doping, overtraining, addiction) and the benefits of sport for physical health and morale. 

After an hour, the cultural mediator asks each team to explain the 3 activities they have chosen from the course and then announces the top 3 teams.

Students take part in teams in a fun activity that gets them thinking about the research being carried out by scientists in different disciplines to do sport differently and achieve better legal performance, the role of sport in human life, and its influence on society, the economy, lifestyle and health. The competition between teams is motivating, as the aim is to reach the end of the course in one hour and answer the 10 riddles. Olympic values are at the heart of this workshop: excellence, friendship and respect in particular.
