MC PERFECTION Improving language skills in the field of sports
06 févr. 2024First, the students were given worksheets with pictures representing different sports and they were asked to give the English equivalent of these sports. Then, we saw what sports are represented in the Olympic games and which are not. They also studied the vocabulary of the equipment, the places, the people involved. An intense pronunciation practice was carried out during the activity.
After that, the students chose a sport and tried to make the others guess what it was they had chosen.
Finally, they searched for more information and created a slideshow presenting a few Olympic sports. Each slide gave the following information: type of sport, number of players, place, equipment, aim of the sport or game , some basic rules, some famous sportsmen and women in that sport and the physical and mental skills that that are needed to practise it.
As a final oral practise, the students were divided in groups of two and had a conversation about sports, about theirsport and physical activity habits and their benefits. They also talked about their favourite sportsmen, sportswomen and what they admired in them..
The students presented their slides to the rest of the group.
The students improved their skills and knowledge in English by studying vocabulary, pronunciation and by practisingoral interaction. They also learnt about important Olympic games and created a slideshow that will be be dispayed in the school for the other students’ information. They appreciated that because they were active and acquired reusablecompetences.
