CC HERITAGE Let us discover the history of the Olympic Games
30 sept. 2023The students have been working on the Olympic Games, with a particular focus on their history from their origins to the present day. The history of the Games goes back around 3,000 years, to the Peloponnese in Ancient Greece. Sports contests organized at Olympia took place every four years and acquired the name Olympic Games. In 1894, Pierre de Coubertin launched his plan to revive the Olympic Games, and in 1896 the first Games of the modern era were held in Athens. The students worked in two stages. First, they took notes on an exhibition put on by teachers, and then they built a voice from their notes. The pupils discovered the long history of the Olympic Games, some anecdotes, the evolution in the number of participating countries, the arrival of women and new disciplines... Students will also discover that Olympism is a philosophy of life that exalts and combines in a balanced whole the qualities of body, will and mind. Combining sport with culture and education, Olympism seeks to create a way of life based on the joy of effort, the educational value of good example, social responsibility and respect for fundamental universal ethical principles.
As a result, the students have become more methodical, saving time when taking notes, better at synthesizing information and more confident when speaking. They learned more about the history of the Olympic Games.
